Random Saturday
Sept 26, 2011.
On a random Saturday morning, I was listening a radio program. It is surprisingly how life has its way of teaching you something. That day the story I heard on the radio was a ray of hope for me and the story is now stuck in my head.
The radio program was a story about a lady. She was born with leprosy and was only ten years old when she lost her hand and one leg. She was in an orphanage and during her stay there she met her soulmate, also a leprosy patient, and married him. Few years later, her family started growing and they were blessed with a son and a princess. Since her husband was also a leprosy victim he died shortly after the marriage. After the death of her husband, life was really hard on her but she was hopeful and he had faith that it will be better someday. She had two loving, kind children and they were her life, her silver lining. But fate has something else stored for her. She lost both of her children when they were just 17 and 16, to a bus accident. Her life's purpose now is to set up an orphanage in her children's name so that they'll be remembered. I remember her words "I don't know how much longer I'd live, my kidneys aren't working and I'm very weak but before dying I have a purpose, I want to save my children's name for future. I want to thank the lord for giving me hope and will be grateful if he keep me alive till my mission is accomplished."

That was all the plot but I thought a lot about this story. It bothered me for weeks. It made me hopeless. "Life" what the hell is it anyway?? What's it's purpose? What's the point of living anyway? I always believed that there will be a day after a night and that was "life" in my perspective. But hearing her story, I lost all hopes I had with life.
Life is hard indeed. Harder for some and better for some. It is really hard to have a positive mindset and keep moving forward specially when you are going through a hard time or are in a situation like above but I was taken aback by her attitude and how she kept moving forward.
After few weeks of getting sad and depressed by her story, I started seeing the silver lining. I started appreciating her willpower and desire to do something good and leave this world a better place. We always have reasons to not do things because the timing is not right, we don't have money, we don't have energy and what not. This story gave me hope that if she can do all the good work in spite of her disability, there's nothing stopping me. Hard times will only make you stronger. Don't ever give up on your life. Life is beautiful, you just need to find the right perspective.
Until next time...
